Valhalla Winds is a marching arts ensemble that rehearses in Miamisburg, Ohio, on weekends from January thru April. We compete with other groups in our specific division. All shows are in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Valhalla Winds is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Winds combines Marching Band, Theater and Dance in an indoor arena. Winds presents marching ensembles of any instrumentation in the same performance environment as indoor color guard and percussion ensembles.

There are several reasons. Performing in an ensemble like this can help you maintain and advance your marching arts skills for both indoor and outdoor performances. The indoor performance venue allows for many more instruments to be utilized and heard. Winds allows you to add personalized and stylized dance and movement to your performance that may not always be effective or appreciated in the outdoor activity. Both the ensemble and individual music skills easily transfer to any other ensemble setting. The more time you spend playing and performing on your instrument the more you’ll be reinforcing good playing and performing skills!

Any melodic instrument can join! Woodwinds, Brass, Guitar, Bass, Strings, Piano, Synth, etc! Currently we are not utilizing any marching or mallet/keyboard percussion in the ensemble, but acoustic and effect percussion is always needed and appreciated for texture! If you play something like Bari Sax or Tuba, we can help you get an instrument!

Valhalla is open to any senior in high school or older person who has concert or marching band experience. There is no age limit in this ensemble! The most common age is between 18 years and 30 years. Seniors in high school must come from a school that does not have a Winds program.

We currently compete in the Winter Guard International (WGI) and Mid-East Performance Association (MEPA) circuits in the Winds Independent Open Class. Our competitions are in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, and our current schedule can be viewed on the Schedule page of our website!

We rehearse on weekends (typically Fri-Sun). Fridays are 6-9pm, Saturdays are 10am-9pm and Sundays are 10am-5pm. Just like every other ensemble we encourage 100% attendance, but we also understand that life doesn’t stop for band. School and family obligations happen, and as long as you communicate with the administration, agreements can be made!

We do our best to keep our member fees low. Member fees help cover uniforms, instruction, rehearsal space, and competition fees. We try to plan several fundraiser opportunities that can benefit the member’s fees directly and ease the financial burden. Our fees are currently in the $1000-1100 range for the season.
